Capacity of 30 MW and cost of 21
million dirhams Commissioning
of new power station at Sieh
Allahma in Al Ain
Project targets Faults expectations and raising
efficiency of control and protection systems
is launched to develop «Earthing» system
to provide protection for Al Ain electricity
networks.
Al Ain Distribution Company
has recently commissioned a
new power station at the area
of Sieh Allahma consisting two
transformers with a total capacity
of 30 MW at a cost of 21 millions,
and 290 thousands dirhams.
Al Ain Distribution Company
Launched a project for developing
the system of “Earthing” to
provide all the safeguards
required to protect the plants
and distribution networks and
to achieve the public safety. The
project is based on performing
tests on electricity network
and related loads without
disconnecting the power to
simulate faults that may occur to
overhead lines
H.E. Mohammed Salem bin Omair Al
Shamsi, Managing Director of Al Ain
Distribution Company, said that the
new station underwent a period of
Experimental operation and proven a high
operational efficiency, and their security
and safety systems have been tested
to ensure their effectiveness and that
they meet the requirements and all the
required standards.
The Company Managing Director added
that the project aims to provide electric
power necessary to meet the needs of
modern industrial facilities in the region,
the expansions that have taken place and
the new sewerage plants and to contribute
to the consolidation of infrastructure
elements in the region to provide
new additional sources of Energy to
accommodate the expected large increase
in electrical loads.
The station is located at a land mark
position along the new trucks road near to
the new industrial zone located in the west
of Al Ain city. When selecting the position,
it has been taken into account that the
station space shall be located within the
geographical area of the new industrial
zone which is expected to witness a great
extension in the coming years.
The Managing Director of Al Ain
Distribution Company said that the
company is keen on providing the
latest requirements , standards and
measurements required in all new energy
projects in the city and its regions, where
the designing of all stations and networks
His Excellency Mohammed Bin Omair
Al Shamsi, Managing Director of the
company, said that the project is the first
of its kind in the region and will enable
engineers and technicians involved in the
prediction of faults that may occur to the
electricity network and the implications
of this and contribute significantly to
improving the performance of prevention
and control systems in the event of real
faults in distribution network .
Mohammed Bin Omair Al Shamsi,
Managing Director of the company added
that the project combines the consultancy
study and tests on the live electricity
power network which helps improve
performance and provides the necessary
protection to avoid exposure to faults.
that the project of“Earthing”which is being
implemented according to the highest and
international standards aims at developing
a clear methodology for the process of
“Earthing” to include all levels of electricity
voltage from low voltage (415 volts) and
up to the high voltage of (33 kv) at various
stations of transferring and distribution
of electricity including common transfer
stations between the two companies ; Al Al
projects are being carried in accordance
with long-range plans in the light of
careful studies of future needs of electric
power.
Bin Omair pointed out that «Al Ain
Distribution» is always seeking in
coordination and in cooperation with the
concerned authorities to develop accurate
perceptions of the future needs of energy
to cope with successive increases in the
volume of demand to keep in line with
the urban extension rates and the steady
increase in population density in the city.
Al Shamsi confirmed that all the new
projects are being carried out according
to the world standards and specifications
issued and approved by the Abu Dhabi
Water and Electricity Authority regarding
the projects of stations and water and
electricity distribution networks, taking
into account all systems and requirements
concerning the conservation actions
regarding the environment and health,
safety and security procedures in the
Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
From his part, Eng. Ahmed Masood Al
Alawy, acting projects performance
Manager at Al Ain Distribution Company,
said that the company is keen on applying
the security , safety and environment
requirements in all the affiliated stations,
where the projects international standards
of security and safety, whether projects
implemented by the company based on
its potentials or those that are awarded to
contractorswho are obliged to complywith
the due environmental and occupational
safety terms are being applied.
Al Alawy discussed the new energy
power plant project in the area of Sieh
Allahma, pointing out that the project
also takes into account the application of
all the required safety standards through
providing safeguards to remotely control
and monitor the station to help detecting
the faults when they occur. This is with
aim to deal with them as soon as possible,
which in turn contributes to maintaining
the equipment, increase the shelf life
of the plant and reduce the cost of the
annual maintenance.
Itshouldbenotedthat«AlAinDistribution»
has recently completed a new package of
projects, within the framework of plans
and programs of the company to raise the
efficiency of the electricity network and
develop it along with renovating advanced
technology systems to reduce the rates of
faults, control them and reconnection of
the power current within a record time.
The company sets a mbitious plans and
programs to modernize and develop water,
electric facilities, to ensure the provision
of the needs of the participants and
raise the level of services provided by the
company in line with the strategic plan of
the government of Abu Dhabi 2030.
The plans of developing projects of the
electricity network in Al Ain are divided
into short, medium and long term plans.
The projects of protecting the network
through calibrating and setting the
network and replacing the protection
systems with another more sophisticated
systems linked to the system of managing
network distribution systems network,
which is run electronically, are of the
most prominent projects executed by the
company in recent times.
Ain Distribution Company, and “Transco”
Company and distribution stations of
Al Ain Distribution Company serving the
public of participants.
Alzahli added that the project which
will contribute greatly to raising the
performance level of the electricity
distribution network in Al Ain by
anticipating and identifying faults
that may occur in it and develop
mechanisms to avoid them, is currently
being implemented in 5 different
locations the selection of which was
made to reflect the diversity and
contrast existed between these areas in
terms of the nature of the land and soil
of its sandy, mountainous, muddy and
other kinds.
The project of developing the system
includes the use of 11 developed
patterns of the networks of “Earthing”
used in the world now along with the
measurement of the resistance to
ground voltage and the resistance to
earthing as well as monitoring changes
in these two resistances over 18
months that can be extended according
to the technical reasons which may
be imposed by the measurement,
comparisons in an attempt to reach the
best possible results.
The Engineer / Amr Mounir Dahab Chief
of Devices Division atAlAin Distribution
Company said that the system of
“Earthing” includes setting iron bars in a
certain technical way under the ground
at the area surrounding the distribution
networks to protect the network and
keep the safety of the public.
Mounir explained that the tests being
conducted on the network without
disconnecting thepower lasts for15days
by more than 40 simulation processes
of outages of the electricity network by
using 5 of the latest protection devices
produced by international companies
for this purpose, in addition to other
devices already existing in station.
The works of the project included
developing the system of earthing in
its first stage, in addition to the areas
of Umm Ghafah, Hayer , Al Wagan,
Mazyad, andAl zalah, in order to achieve
the goals of the system development
project which are primarily based on
improving the technical specifications
of the system of earthing in the light of
the consequences of the project to save
and to ensure the required protection
and safety standards .
Package of projects to develop the power
network of Al Ain
Mohammed Bin Omair Al Shamsi,
Managing Director of Al Ain Distribution
Company pointed that the company
is now working on implementing a
package of new projects to expand
and develop the electricity distribution
network in various regions of Al Ain,
as well as conducting some studies
and practical experiences to activate
the efforts and means aimed to detect
faults, reduce and mitigate the effects
that they produce.
The Managing Director of Al Ain
Distribution Company added that the
project comes in line with the five-
year strategy of Abu Dhabi Water and
Electricity Authority which in turn
comes within the framework of in Abu
Dhabi Vision 2030.
