Overview of Abu Dhabi Environment Agency
Abu Dhabi Environment Agency, founded in 1996, is committed to protection and promotion of the quality of air
and mineral water, besides preservation of biological diversity in environmental desert and marine systems, in Abu
Dhabi. In partnership with other public agencies, private sector, NGOs, and global environmental organizations, the
agency seeks to adopt the optimum global practices and encourage innovation and earnest work in taking effective
measures and policies. It also seeks to enhance ecological awareness and sustainable development, and ensure
constant inclusion of ecological issues within the top priorities of the national agenda.

Abu Dhabi Environment Agency
announced its program of receiving
the public in Abu Dhabi important
environmental reserves. Through the
Environmental Reserves Program,
the visitors shall be able to explore
natural heritage in AbuDhabi through
three environmental systems that
are important for local biological
diversity, namely Al Wathba
Wetland, Al Qurm National Park, and
– in the near future – Qasr Al Sarab
Reserve. The visitors of Al Wathba
Wetland shall be able to view more
than four thousand flamingo birds
returning to the reserve after their
summer migration to Kazakhstan.
Abu Dhabi Environment Agency,
during the birds migration season,
development the infrastructure and
walk courses, along with the areas
specified for viewing wild life and
the center for receiving visitors.
The visitors of the reserve, which
locates 45 km away from Abu Dhabi
citycenter, shall alsobeableenjoy the
diverse activities of watching birds,
walking and conducting educational
tours, besides acquainting with the
Environment Agency’s program for
monitoring and tracking flamingo
birds, which uses unmanned
aircrafts and Satellite Aided Tracking
technology in examining the
numbers of flamingo birds in Abu
Dhabi and monitoring the pattern of
if migration, its reproduction and its
return to their natural habitat.
As for the second reserve, Al Qurm
National Park, which locates on
the eastern shore of Abu Dhabi,
it can be explored on board row
boats belonging to the tourist trips
organizers. Al Qurm (mangrove)
forests cover an area of 19 square
km, and provide a rich environment
for diverse sea and bird species. In
addition, a platform for row boats
is built there, a dock for row boats,
land and water ways, and providing
educational trips. The agency shall
monitor all the activities inside the
park to ensure the visitors enjoy the
scenic nature without causing any
disturbance to natural life.
On the other hand, the third reserve
is Qasr Al Sarab which shall open its
doors later. It is considered a home
for Sheikh Mohamed Bin Khalifa
Program for the Arabian Oryx
Resettlement, which contributes
to the recovery of Oryx animals
that are on the brink of extinction.
The visitors shall acquaint with the
agency’s program for preservation
of local natural life in Abu Dhabi,
which includes Oryx, gazelles,
reptiles and plants.
The agency also urges all visitors of
the natural reserves to share their
thoughts and suggestions with it
through social media platforms and
website of Abu Dhabi Environment
Agency. It is also committed to
continuing the development and
promotion of natural eco-reserves
program and, on the long run,
provide the best experience for its
visitors.
