The Impact of Perfumes on
one’s self
Man’s infatuation with perfumes
traces back to times past history, as
they used in the past to burn certain
types of plants with strong fragrant
smell, either as incense or as part
of religious rituals. The pharaohs,
for instance, used perfume five
thousand years ago. Yet, it was the
Arabs who first used rose petals in
extracting rose water since 1300,
and also used it as a medicine.
So, roses are considered the most
ancient source of perfumes in the
world, knowing that it was quite
popular among Arab tribes.
The question is: Does
perfume have positive
psychological
effects?
The logical answer is that if not, it
would have not persisted in use
since defunct eras and until the
present day, on both individual
and collective levels, as in cases
of social ceremonies, feasts, etc.
Sense olfactory (smell) sense is
directly connected to the brain,
which is marked for a filtering
capacity in selecting scents, given
that millions of scents diffuse around
us in the ambiencewherewe live, be
it a scent of a commodity, a plant or
a human, it was discovered that both
the amygdala and limbic system
are directly and systematically
connected with the olfactory sense,
knowing that both are the main
centers responsible for emotion,
mood, sentiments and memory.
For, laboratory neurobiological
studies have shown increase in the
activity of both parts of the brain
upon exposition to perfumes, and
of course we do not deny that man’s
experiences since his childhood has
a profound link to such impact.
Study andResearch...
This issue has been scientifically
researched in both the past and
the present, and all researches
come to the identical conclusion
that perfumes improve social
behavior, on one hand, and enhance
mental capacities, like the powers
of concentration, attentiveness,
comprehension,
understanding,
mentalcommunication,andanalysis.
It also improves the capacity to solve
daily problems and increases social,
practical and academic activity,
motivation, and resolution.
Studies also affirmed that perfumes
enhanceman’sviewofhissurrounding
environment, circumstances and
people, as it increases receptivity and
acceptance and joyful adaptation
to the courses and experiences of
life, like travel, visits, purchasing and
work. It also embitters the image
of things and people in one’s sight,
in a way which makes him more
comfortable and harmonious with
surrounding environment, and more
accomplishing in the different walks
of life.
Perfume and beauty ...
Accordingly,beauty isnotconceived
through the eye only, but also
through nose, by way of olfactory
sense. In this sense, beautiful smells
and aromatic scents are like music
in its being an international language
that knows no borders. Besides,
man can enhance his mood,
his view of the world, his mental
capacities through it. Likewise,
one can enhance his practical
accomplishments through the
easiest manner of applying perfume
on both individual and collective
occasions, and incommercial areas,
and private or public institutions, to
allow for greater accomplishments
and productivity and maintain the
spirit of perseverance, away from
any feeling of boredom or fatigue.
